Waterfront History Excursions
The Lorain Historical Society hopes to once again sponsor the History Themed Boat Tours down the Black River this summer. Due to the current pandemic, we are slowly working with the Lorain Port Authority and the Lorain County Health Department to develop this popular program. We will post the schedule as soon as it is available.
Participants can cruise the Lorain waterfront and learn the importance that the waterways played in the development of Lorain, beginning at the mouth of the Black River. Historic landmarks such as the Lorain Lighthouse, the site of American Shipbuilding and the US Steel are on the path of the trip. Travelers can also witness the rebirth of wildlife preserves on the Black River by viewing the rookeries and the aquatic fish shelves along the tour.
Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased on the Lorain Port Authority’s website at www.lorainportauthority.com or by contacting the Port Authority at 440-204-3369. The boat tours will depart from Lakeside Landing at 2 pm; guests are expected to arrive 15 minutes prior.
