History in Bloom: Lorain Lilac Day
May 21 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
JOIN US as we celebrate this anniversary of Lorain’s history by purchasing a lilac from The Lorain Historical Society.
On May 21, 1931 Lorain’s Mayor Paul Goldthorpe proclaimed the first lilac day in Lorain. This festival saw the planting of over 5000 lilacs, a city-wide day of planting, a lilac queen and many songs written about the festival. To commemorate this occasion Mayor Jack Bradley has proclaimed May 21, 2021 to be “Lilac Day” once again in Lorain.
Varieties include: Miss Kim, Bloomerang and Purple Glory. For an additional fee, volunteers will deliver and plant the lilacs. Premium hanging baskets are also available for sale.
A limited number of lilacs will be available, so early ordering is recommended. Deadline for all flower orders is May 8.
Pickup will be on May 21, 2021 from 10 am – 3 pm
